All medals and prizes have been sent out via Livejournal. Please, if you do not receive your award by tomorrow morning, drop me a comment here or an email at slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com. Great job, you guys! Congratulations to all the medal winners and the runners up. We're so glad you decided to join in on the Go For the Gold games and hope you will look forward to and enjoy our upcoming Halloween activities. Thank you all very much!

A quick FYI: When I scored the grammar games (quotations, semicolons, etc) I did correct each one individually and made notes. If you'd like your grammar games back to look over, shoot me an email at slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com. Please note that if you want your quizzes back, you must send me an email, so I can just hit reply and attach your quiz(zes). Comments off so someone doesn't accidentally leave a comment with an email address in hopes that I'll remember to check back and get the address and all. I'm really, really bad at that. But I'm happy to provide your quizzes (including the canon qualification quizzes) to you for your review if you email me. Just let me know!

Hello [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers! I wanted to personally thank all of you who played in the Go For the Gold games, as well as those of you who rooted from the sidelines or maybe just followed along quietly. I have the answer key to the Harry/Draco Canon Qualification Quiz here, under the cut. If you're wondering where all of those fantastic quotes come from -- from which book, that is -- click on the cut and find out. Enjoy!

We hope you enjoyed our canon quizzes as much as we had fun preparing them for you! Under the cut are the answers to the second canon qualification quiz featuring humorous quotes from the Harry Potter books. I did not have time to put them in the order they appeared on the quiz, but each quote is organized by book and chapter and should be readily recognizable. So scan through them, have another giggle, and give it up for JKR's quirky sense of humor! Thanks for playing our canon qualification game.

GO FOR THE GOLD: [Challenge: Change of Tenses]

Today's event is a challenge of 'Changing Tenses'!

Your challenge if you choose to accept it is to take any ficlet, drabble, paragraph etc and change the tense! You can start with past tense and make it present or start with past tense and make it present, etc! Or you can get fancy and try out future tense xD

{Reference: Purdue OWL: Verb Tenses}

Your drabble/ficlet/paragraph can be something from your previous works or it can be something you write new just for this challenge. We just ask that it be at least 100 words.

Post your results in the comments! And of course medals will be rewarded for our participants at the closing ceremony tomorrow!

You have just about 24 hours to submit yours! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Reminder: Our closing ceremony and medals are scheduled for Tuesday, but there may be a slight delay. They will be coming either late Tuesday or possibly on Wednesday in order to give everyone time to participate in this or any other events that are still ongoing. Plus it will give the mods time to get the prizes ready! Thank you to everyone who has participated so far!
[identity profile] slytherincesss.livejournal.com

Our final Go For the Gold writing exercise is quite simple to understand, but a bit harder to execute! We'd like you to write a Harry/Draco interview in whatever style suits your fancy: Playboy; the Guardian; Katie Couric or any famous interviewer; the raucous Howard Stern; or the eight-year-old girl down the street writing for her school paper. Of course it's completely fine to have either Harry or Draco interview the other, whether that be Harry as an Auror interrogating Draco as a Death Eater, or Draco having taken on a job at the Daily Prophet and him trying to land Harry as a plum interview. Anywhere your imagination takes you is fair game -- the only rule that applies is it must be recognizable as an interview format. The only exclusion is this is not an epistolary challenge, so however your interview takes place, it must feature Harry and Draco speaking in person, face to face (Firechat, Floo, Extendable Ears, etc., are all fair game).

INTERVIEWS ARE DUE TUESDAY 14 AUG AT 11:59 P.M. GMT

Please send your completed interview to slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com and we'll make sure it's posted to the community for everyone to enjoy. Whip out your Quik-Quote Quill and get to the bottom of what makes Draco and Harry tick. Good luck!

FINAL TRIATHLON CHECK-IN

WOO-HOO! YOU DID IT! Congratulations for making it through a 72 hour writing triathlon with [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers! It's not easy to write for three days, especially consecutively, so now you really deserve a five gallon cooler of Gatorade poured over your head, plus some Firewhisky to celebrate, and cookies and chocolate instead of rice cakes! We're so psyched you participated and we can't wait to count all the words you contributed. Go ahead and head back to your original comment HERE and check in with your final word count. Absolutely fantastic job on Going For the Gold! Watch for our upcoming medals ceremony where we'll be handing out bronze, silver, and gold medals to the contenders who managed to squeeze out the most words! And you know? Don't be surprised if everyone who participated finds themselves with a little summat summat ;)

WHO WROTE ALL THE WORDS? WE WROTE ALL THE WORDS!
[identity profile] slytherincesss.livejournal.com

48 HOUR CHECK-IN

Writers, pat yourself on the back like whoa! It's really hard to work on your writing for 72 hours consecutively -- writing, editing, and plotting -- so congratulations for hanging in with our triathlon here at [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers! How are you doing? Is your word count on track? Do you feel good about your goals? Did you eat your rice cake at the 24 hour mark? You all are making such terrific efforts! The holiday writing fests are right around the corner, so you'll want to be in good writing shape to tackle those monster fics. We only have 24 more hours to go in our triathlon, so have some Firewhisky Pepper-Up and get comfy at that keyboard again. But before you do, go ahead and head back to your original comment HERE and check in with your latest word count. Great job on Going For the Gold!
[identity profile] slytherincesss.livejournal.com

UPDATE YOUR WORD COUNT! 24 HOUR CHECK-IN

Leave your current word count at your original comment HERE. We're one-third of the way through our 72 hour word Triathlon! Flex those fingers, mop your brow, and have an energizing rice cake! Ready to let those words spill out again? Awesome! We're off again, on the second leg of our triathlon -- Go For the Gold!

Once Upon a Tweet

A unique challenge was issued on June 6, 2012 via the New Yorker magazine. The New Yorker’s fiction department serial tweeted Jennifer Egan’s story “Black Box,” which appeared in the magazine’s science fiction issue. Egan structured her story in prose bursts of 140 characters or fewer—the limit for a single tweet.

Challenge yourself to write a Harry/Draco story that could appear in small installments by shortening the length of the story’s paragraphs to one or two sentences. Try to advance the story with each terse paragraph.

Source: Poets & Writers

Twitter fics are due Monday 13 August 2012 at 12:00 P.M.GMT!

What would Harry and Draco say in 140 characters or less?

LET'S GET TWEETING!

Email your Twitter fics to me at slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll make sure they're posted to the community :D

*I chose this challenge before remembering I actually wrote two small H/D Twitter ficlets back in the spring of 2011 called Snitchly and Twee [PG-13]. I'm sharing the link here so people can see one kind of structure for a Twitter fic if they'd like to. There is absolutely no obligation to click the link -- it is not a requirement of the game. If anyone knows of any other H/D Twitter fics, please leave a comment with the name, author, and URL to the story and I will edit them into this post.

THE SEMICOLON

At a comma stop a little .... At a semicolon somewhat more.
Richard Hodges, The English Primrose, 1644

~*~

Welcome to our semicolon grammar game! The semicolon is perhaps the most feared and misunderstood punctuation mark in the English language. There's no need to panic, though, when trying to correctly utilize the semicolon. This little mark is utilitarian, easy to understand, and useful for creating smooth prose. I love, Love, LOVE semicolons!

|| SEMICOLON CHALLENGE UNDER THE CUT || )

Complete this little semicolon quiz and mail your answers to slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com, no later than Tuesday 14 August, 12:00 A.M. GMT. Winners will be announced Wednesday 15 August at the Go For the Gold closing ceremonies. Good luck!

TRIATHLON! WORD WAR SIGN UP!

Welcome to our first all time zones Triathlon word war! This will be our last word war for the Harry/Draco Go For the Gold games and the rules for this word war are a little unconventional. Let me reiterate them here, with clarifications, and, as always, please leave any questions in the comments. Yesterday I wrote:

As long as you document 72 consecutive hours of word warring over the next five days (Th - Fri - Sat - Sun - Mon) you will be eligible for the gold! To be completely clear, I'm setting the final cutoff for all time zones for 12:00 P.M. TUE 14 AUG GMT. That should be enough time to give everyone the opportunity to word war for 72 consecutive hours without worrying about the time zones. This is the official sign-up post up; you are free to sign up when it's convenient for you! Just take care to allow yourself a full 72 consecutive hours to compete up until Tuesday 12:00 NOON GMT 14 Aug. We're nearing the end of our games -- let's go for the gold with a fresh kind of word war and a real bang!

LET'S HIT THE FINAL LEG OF THE GO FOR THE GOLD GAMES HARD!

*Sorry to contiuously stress "consecutive" in such an annoying way! Just wanted to ensure there was no question about that. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] tryslora, for bringing that to my attention :D

Heigh ho, modhat!curi here, filling in for Kneazley because I pestered her into it of reasons. Because who doesn’t want to play Calvinball when the chance comes up, am I right?

The Official Calvinball Drabble Day Master List is going up, so that’s a wrap on yet another exciting day of prompts. Thanks to everyone who came out to play, and to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] kinky_kneazle for hosting.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] blossomdreams, who filled every prompt posted and brought some charming original characters to the Calvinball event. Check your inbox, bb, for this is a feat worthy of prizes.

Here's the list of Calvinball prompts and all the lovely fills.

SHAKE YOUR WRITING BLAHS

[livejournal.com profile] hd_writers TRIATHLON WORD WAR

THU - FRI - SAT - SUN - MON

WHAT ZONE? ALL TIME ZONES!

What do I mean by "all time zones"? It's so hard to choose the best time zone that will be the most inclusive of everyone, so I thought let's shake things up and compete in a time zone free-for-all! As long as you document 72 hours of word warring over the next five days (Th - Fri - Sat - Sun - Mon) you will be eligible for the gold! To be completely clear, I'm setting the final cutoff for all time zones for 12:00 P.M. TUE 14 AUG GMT. That should be enough time to give everyone the opportunity to word war for 72 hours without worrying about the time zones. I will put the sign-up post up within the next 4-6 hours, and you are free to sign up when it's convenient for you. Just take care to allow yourself a full 72 hours to compete. We're nearing the end of our games -- let's go for the gold with a bang!

Please don't hesitate to comment with any questions.

Now let's go write ALL THE WORDS!
