Welcome to Drabble Day, the Calvinball of Olympic Competition. It's both 24-hr marathon and short-writing sprint. It's classic 100m freestyle with your favourite pairing and new-fangled triathaloning with three crossovers, two pairings and a kink. It's clean and efficient tumbling pass writing and the purple prose of synchronised swimming. It's also armchair Olympics at its best. Feeling out of shape? Been on twitter too much? Not in the right headspace for a competitive event? Drabble Day welcomes you. Hell, we'll even take you if you've been taking performance-enhancing drugs (aka caffeine and alcohol). There's half hour to go, so hopefully you're limbering up.

If it's your first time, prompts will be posted every hour for the next twenty-four hours. If you're inspired, write something for it. Post it as a comment to the prompt post, or link to it in a comment to the prompt post. That is all.

If you don't know the rules, they're detailed here but come down to two things:

Rule no. 1 - there are no rules on drabble day. Any length, any pairing, any fandom, any rating. We love it all. We've had orig!fic, we've had haiku. We are about a day of no limits and no constraints to get your creative juices flowing - especially if you've been working too hard at something recently, take a day to let loose and limber up, ready for another week of competition.

Rule no. 2 - okay, there is a rule. Please post NC-17 fics on personal journals so that we can keep this event all ages. Post a link to your fic in the comments to prompt post, and detail any warnings in the comment. We're worried specifically about chan, as there are legal issues in some countries.

So what can you expect in the next 24 hours? A plethora of Olympic-themed prompts. Don't feel compelled to write Olympic-themed drabbles, though. We're only here to spark your imagination. Twenty-six Olympic sports, 24 hours..? Doesn't quite work, but we'll figure something out.

There'll be people in chatzy who are, you know, chatting. Prizes for most prompts filled, longest drabble, anything else we feel like. It's Drabble Day, just go with it.

So, half hour to go? Get ready for the first prompt!

Signups are still open for our co-writing round of [livejournal.com profile] daisychain_drab!

Don't worry! There's still plenty of time! This round isn't due until June 15!

If you are considering this round but you don't have a partner to write with, just comment with what characters you are willing to write and we'll help you get paired up! <3

There are many different ways to co-write and all are acceptable for this challenge! Some authors each take a character to write. Some send a story back and forth, taking turns writing paragraphs. Some write in epistolary style. Some plot it out together and then one person does the primary writing. As long as you are working with another person to make the story happen, we will gladly accept it!

Yes, that's right, I'm hosting another drabble day! This is formally known as "The Mod taking advantage of the Comm Drabble Day", but informally it is

US Eastern - 1am, Saturday April 21
US Central - midnight, Saturday April 21
US Western - 10pm, Saturday April 21

You know the drill: one prompt every hour for twenty-four hours. Invite your friends, invite the neighbours - it's not an invite-only party, we welcome everyone! This bear was lonely on his birthday, but I have you guys who I love, so yay!

Hello, all! The mods have been kind enough to allow me to post about some writing-related panels that we'll be hosting at Ascendio, a Harry Potter con that'll be held July 12-15 in Orlando, Florida.

We've been working on setting up what we call our Quill Track, which will be focused on writing--both fanfic and professionally. Right now we have some amazing panels lined up with some individuals from the publishing industry as well as some YA authors--including some who've made the transition from fanfic to profic.

Some of our special guests include Lev Grossman (author), Beth Revis (author), Veronica Roth (author), Aimee Carter (author), Michelle Hodkin (author), Molly O’Neill (editor), Joanna Volpe (agent), Lindsay Ribar (agent & author), Carlie Webber (agent), Mark Oshiro (MarkReads, author), Cecilia Tan (publisher & author), all of whom will be panels and workshops on writing and how to get published.

So far we have confirmed panels and workshops on digital publishing (including how to market your own ebooks), how to make it in the publishing industry and how to write killer query letters, as well as various YA panels on topics ranging from feminism in the YA demographic, dystopic YA stories, and LGBTQ and diversity in YA fiction--which will feature the agent whose agency was involved in the Gay in YA blowup last year. And, on top of all that, we've set up an opportunity for aspiring writers to actually have a chance to pitch their novel to one of the three agents who will be attending Ascendio.

Sound amazing? Keep an eye on our Quill Track Programming page for further updates as we confirm more panels, workshops and roundtables. And all of this is 100% included in your Ascendio registration--there's no extra fee for attending.

AND! Not only do you have an opportunity to engage in this fantastic programming track, but you can also help us create it. We're also looking for programming directed towards fanfic writing as well as professional to include in the Quill Track, which means we need fandom to submit panels and workshops! So, if you've got great advice for your fellow fanfic writers on how to create plot or character or Britpick--or on how to be a great beta or find a great beta--or on how to write first person POV--or how to write really great sex scenes…we'd LOVE to hear from you.

We're particularly looking for slash and erotic writing panels, so if you're coming to Ascendio and would like to do a panel, presentation, workshop or roundtable, please submit your ideas by February 29--that's only two weeks away! If you'd like to bounce some programming ideas around, PM me on Livejournal, or email me at formalprogramming@hp2012.org and we can talk. I hope to see some of you guys at Ascendio this summer--we would love to have you. :)
