Hello, lovlies?

What happened folks?

Okay, so I know the poll was last minute but did we get some wires crossed somewhere? It's been brought to my attention that 'comment fest' in this fandom is a prompt based event that already exists. I apologise, because I really didn't know that before the event.

Assuming we were to call it something else, e.g Feedback-A-Thon to prevent this confusion, would you guys all understand what was going on a bit better?
Or now that you know this was supposed to be an event where you're required to give feedback (leave comments) to creators based on daily themes, do you just not like the idea?

Can I have some feedback please?

On the up side, although the event crashed and burned here it went really well in the other fandom I ran it in (although this was only a test run and some changes need to be made. For example, some people said they didn't have enough time to read all the stuff they wanted to in one day.)

If you could leave your thoughts?

Well, it’s wrap up day. This is the last theme post. Head's up, if you make a submission you'll probably win, because we've had no submissons so far. Not one. All you have to do is make a new comment on a hp creation that fits this theme, then post a link here. Check out the guidelines if you have any questions. The closing post will be up on Tuesday, you have until then to submit on any of the event themes.

Today, we’re going to look back at some of the contributions that have kept this comm going. You have 3 options here:

1. Go have an amble through the past events the comm has held. Back to Hogwarts, maybe, or Wizarding Games. (Browsing through the tags should help you here.) Have a look and see if anything interests you.

2. You could go take a look at what the other wonderful mods have been up to. They give up their free time maintaining this comm and I’m amazed by what can get done when they put their minds to it! (The other mods on this comm are: [livejournal.com profile] drarryisgreen, [livejournal.com profile] digthewriter, [livejournal.com profile] witchyemerald, [livejournal.com profile] khasael, [livejournal.com profile] tryslora, [livejournal.com profile] kitty_fic and [livejournal.com profile] thisgirl_is. *Claps and salutes them all*)

3. Take a scroll through your fellow members. Go search out their archive of creations. Drop them a line if you appreciate their work as well. We all like to feel appreciated and that our words are reaching other people.

Art

Home stretch now, folks! Keep that enthusiasm going, you're all doing really well!

A good proportion of fan works are fics, but let’s not forget all the stupidly talented artists we’ve got in our fandom too -- and when I say stupidly I mean I can’t even think about how you beautiful people managed to do that without my brain imploding a bit.

This is My Favourite Thing Because...

Remember that fic that blew your mind, or that art you looked at 20 times in the same day, or that podfic that made you think about the world differently? Go look at it again and recomment (I’m assuming if you loved it that much then you’ve already commented, right? Right?) While you’re at it, why not rec it around a bit, chances are it’s an amazing piece and other people will fall in love with it too.

If you've got the time when putting up your submissions, why not tell us why you loved it with your link?

AU. Alternate Universe. There’s gotta be millions out there. You should all go and enjoy some.

Neville doesn’t get nearly as much appreciation as he deserves. He a ridiculously awesome Gryffindor. Go remind yourselves of that. :)

Under 2,000 Words

I’m a total slut for a good long fic. Sometimes I have to stop for a second and go remind myself there’s some excellent shorter fic out there. Take a few today and do the same.

H/D

Wow, that last one was an emotional rollercoaster. That was really mean of me and I hope it wasn’t too difficult. We aren't having much participation over here, so I'm going to give you an easy one to get week 2 started. Harry/Draco! Looking at our comm name, I’m assuming you’re all experts on the subject. ;)

Character Fix

Firstly, I hope everyone's having a wonderful Spring Break. Admin wise, there won't be a leader board on this comm as no submissions have been made yet. But never mind about that, let's crack on with today's theme!

Christian Easter Sunday today, so let’s do a little raising the dead of our own. All those characters that Rowling killed off? Why don’t we go and thank all those creators that decided to totally ignore what she said?

I don't know about you but I'm absolutely in denial that either of the Weasley twins were offed. And Sirius and Lupin have a massive romance post-voldemort so, logically, they must both be alive, right?

Molly Weasley

Awwwww, good ol’ Molly. She’s so devoted to her family. She’s so loving. Go show her how much you love her too.

Kid Fic

Some of you probably flung your laptops across the room in horror at this one, but never fear. There’s the obvious m/preg (remember we're celebrating more than just H/D) and aged down character trope, but we’re also accepting next gen in this category. That means the canon kids can jump in here too.

Auror Harry

Who doesn't like a man in uniform? Under this theme, we’ll also be accepting general ministry worker Harry. Or maybe you’re like me:  sucker for auror partners fic.

100 Word Challenge

How about we concentrate on some LiveJournal comms today? There are loads of 100 word weeklies out there (remember this event includes other pairings other than H/D) -- there’s a little list below, feel free to let me know if I’ve missed any.

Diagon Alley

Who doesn’t love Diagon Alley? It’s a magical place, right? So we should revisit it :)

We don't seem to be having much participation over here. Is that because people are busy or confused? I've happy to chat about what's going on or rephrase the guidelines if it's not very clear. If you need an example, check out the event running at merlin_writers.

Severus Snape
Most of us have got a soft spot for the Professor, right? Go forth and show it! Snape doesn’t need to be the main character, or even in the fic personally (just talked about), as long as his name’s there, you’ve filled the theme.
Guidelines

If anyone's a bit confused still, here's a link to yesterday's theme over on merlin_writers, where I'm running the same event. The submissions there are perfect examples of what this fest is about :) I hope that helps. You should all be able to see it without having to join the comm.
[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com
G-Rated

Let’s begin with a nice easy one. Who here is guilty of skipping right to the M, E or R rated stuff? I can raise my glass of wine to that. Why don’t we start by showing our appreciation for all the G-rated (or equivalent lowest rating) creations.

Guidelines
[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com
Here we go! Here are your guidelines. The link back here will be on every theme post so don’t worry about bookmarking or anything. If you're not sure about anything, this post will always be open for questions and I'll get back to you as soon as possible :)

Choosing Your Thing

This fest will be really nice and lenient about what counts under the theme. Each day when the theme post goes up, I’ll let you know what it includes, but if the subject is somewhere in the fic (including just mentioned) it’ll be counted. E.g. If one theme happened to be Dumbledore, he doesn’t need to appear in the fic for it to count. As long as he’s mentioned, it’s all good.

I’ll sometimes add helpful links, but I’m not going to add ao3 links (except to comms). Try not to go for the most recently dated stuff, although if it catches your eye then don't let me stop you. We want to spread the love, but not solely to the lucky, creative people who’ve posted recently.

If you think I’ve missed out a particularly relevant comm/link, drop me a message and I’ll add it to the post.

Commenting On Your Thing

This is a low stress, full fun event. Don’t feel you need to write 500 words of constructive analytical text. Your comment only needs to be 5 words or over. 5 Words!

Remember it has to be new as well.  You can’t use a comment you posted weeks ago, or even yesterday, although all those amazing people probably appreciate them loads.

Submitting Your Comments

This time around, I’m going to say you’re allowed to submit a maximum of 10 comments per theme. Absolutely feel free to go crazier than that around the fandom (in fact, it’s encouraged. For admin purposes, as this is the first time the event is running, I just don’t want to get ahead of myself.)

Just link your comment (as a comment) to the correct theme post. You may add as many comment links in one go as you like, all 10 if you want. Or have your own thread, so you can post them throughout the day/weeks.

All I ask is that you please do not edit comments once they’re up (unless you’ve got typos or something.) In other words, please do not add extra links to comments you’ve already submitted, as they may have already been counted and this mod is only human -- I’m worried some points will get lost somewhere!

What about those leaderboards you mentioned in the previous post?

Oh, those. Unless you’re really competitive like me, try not to worry about those. I won’t bore you with the details of how I’m scoring it until after the event is over (in case you want to make sure I got your score right). Which leads me to one final point:

We absolutely don’t want to limit your participation (other than the 10 comment submission), so you’re absolutely welcome to go back to themes you’ve missed/skipped and comment for them. You can still submit to previous days until the event is over. This won’t score you as much, but I’m really hoping smashing the leaderboards isn’t your main objective anyway.

That’s it. That’s all you’ve got to do. I hope you all have fun. Maybe you’ll find a new author, and you end up sifting obsessively through every word they’ve ever written. Maybe you’ll spot an artist you’ve never seen before, and all you can do is sit and stare because they’re so amazing.

My inbox is always open, and you may ask questions below as well.  I’ll try and get back to any questions left ASAP.

Good Luck! :D

[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com

By a pretty good portion, all of you lovelies have voted for a two week event -- which is nice for me because it means all my extra just-in-case planning won’t go to waste. Ooooh, I’m so excited.

It’s fantastic to see so many of you raring to go for the whole event. And I look forward to embracing all of our busy friends who’ll be popping by when they’ve got time.

Anyway, so this is the official announcement:

Commentfest on hd_writers will run from 20th March to 3rd April!!

Guidelines of what you need to do will be posted with the first theme. I’m going to try and post each one before noon my time (which is GMT, although the clocks change the middle weekend, sigh, of course).

I look forward to seeing you all next week. We’re going to have a blast making our fandom a ridiculously happy place over the holidays!
[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com

So, here in the UK the Easter holidays are coming up, I believe that’s known as Spring Break to some of you too. As I’m now at uni, I’m running on an academic year timetable. With my time off, I’d like to organise an event and do something useful. :D

What is it?
It’s what it says on the tin! We’re going to spread the love around our fandom. Every day I’ll post a theme. This could range from a rating, a fest that’s posting or has posted, a trope, a setting, a character. It could be anything! And all you have to do is read/view/listen to something and comment! Think of all the happy fandomers who’ll be motivated and want to create more!

How does it work?
So, every day a post will go up with the theme. As a comment to that post, you’ll be asked to leave a link to your comment/s for the day. I’ll be keeping a tally of what’s going on and you'll be awarded points -- a leaderboard will be posted with the top love-spreaders!

Where is it?
It’s here on hd_writers. Another poll has gone out over on merlin_writers for a similar BBC Merlin event if anyone is interested over there too!

What can we comment on?
Anything! The only limit is it has to be Harry Potter -- so it's not even limited to a pairing if you want to read something else! It can be fic, art, podfic. The sky’s the limit.

I understand most of you won’t have time off, but it’s a no stress, all fun event. You don’t have to read a 10,000 word fic for your comment to count, in fact there’s no word limit either way. As long as it fits the theme. It could even be something you’ve previously read/seen/heard and thought ‘I should really leave this person some love’ but didn’t have time. As long as the comment is new, it still counts.

What do I have to do?
There’s no need to sign-up, taking part is your sign-up. Please fill out the little diddy poll below so I know if anyone’s interested or not, and when people would like it to be held. That’s all. Tick two little boxes and go bonkers! Any questions are welcome too :)
