Original title: Tutorial: Placing HTML tags around all similarly Formatted words at once (in Word)

Tutorial created by megyal. [Original DW post here] Re-posted here on [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers with permission, original images provided by megyal.

The images were re-uploaded on LJ since Photobucket is no longer free to use / hotlink with images.

Listed below is the method for all LJ/DW users to use html in their fic - if they write their fics in Microsoft Word. I know it has been tremendously useful for me when I first started writing fic, before I'd moved on to Google docs. This works for Microsoft word program on a computer only (doesn't work online as in one drive, etc...)

I’m also posting this here so MODS can direct their new members here, if they want to list this as a “resource” along with phoenixacid’s HTML FORMAT Guide.

This is mostly a re-post. I take no credit for all the hard work!

Hello all my lovelies!

This is just a little check in from me.

How's everyone's year going so far? What's everyone up to?

Are we still an active, happy comm?

Basically, comment below with any updates you've got.

Are you still active in the fandom, or just happy reading? What would you like to see going on here? Some writing challenges?

Do you use the word wars that go on? Have you signed up for anything recently, or have any deadlines fast approaching you're worried about?

Would you like to rec something fantastic you read recently? Or have a fest to share with other people? Or simply need a rl rant?

Comment below and tell Aunty Raven all about it.

Sidenote: hd_writers srsbzns chat over on chatzy is still very much active if you ever feel like dropping in. (It's not always serious, but we do hold sprints still.)

Are you struggling with writing? Have a prompt but don't know where to go?

I found this link and thought it was pretty great. Let us know what you think of it?

What did you think of the quote? I actually found it really inspiring. It's true, I don't end up hating everything I write, and the key is to keep writing.

I don't know how it was done and who finally did it but it's awesome to know that all the fic hosted in those two by now historical HP and H/D archives will be moving to AO3. :)

If you have stories hosted at the Hex Files or HP Fandom, make sure to follow the link at the end of the post to find out what you can do to facilitate the move.

Hello, lovlies?

What happened folks?

Okay, so I know the poll was last minute but did we get some wires crossed somewhere? It's been brought to my attention that 'comment fest' in this fandom is a prompt based event that already exists. I apologise, because I really didn't know that before the event.

Assuming we were to call it something else, e.g Feedback-A-Thon to prevent this confusion, would you guys all understand what was going on a bit better?
Or now that you know this was supposed to be an event where you're required to give feedback (leave comments) to creators based on daily themes, do you just not like the idea?

Can I have some feedback please?

On the up side, although the event crashed and burned here it went really well in the other fandom I ran it in (although this was only a test run and some changes need to be made. For example, some people said they didn't have enough time to read all the stuff they wanted to in one day.)

If you could leave your thoughts?
[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com
Here we go! Here are your guidelines. The link back here will be on every theme post so don’t worry about bookmarking or anything. If you're not sure about anything, this post will always be open for questions and I'll get back to you as soon as possible :)

Choosing Your Thing

This fest will be really nice and lenient about what counts under the theme. Each day when the theme post goes up, I’ll let you know what it includes, but if the subject is somewhere in the fic (including just mentioned) it’ll be counted. E.g. If one theme happened to be Dumbledore, he doesn’t need to appear in the fic for it to count. As long as he’s mentioned, it’s all good.

I’ll sometimes add helpful links, but I’m not going to add ao3 links (except to comms). Try not to go for the most recently dated stuff, although if it catches your eye then don't let me stop you. We want to spread the love, but not solely to the lucky, creative people who’ve posted recently.

If you think I’ve missed out a particularly relevant comm/link, drop me a message and I’ll add it to the post.

Commenting On Your Thing

This is a low stress, full fun event. Don’t feel you need to write 500 words of constructive analytical text. Your comment only needs to be 5 words or over. 5 Words!

Remember it has to be new as well.  You can’t use a comment you posted weeks ago, or even yesterday, although all those amazing people probably appreciate them loads.

Submitting Your Comments

This time around, I’m going to say you’re allowed to submit a maximum of 10 comments per theme. Absolutely feel free to go crazier than that around the fandom (in fact, it’s encouraged. For admin purposes, as this is the first time the event is running, I just don’t want to get ahead of myself.)

Just link your comment (as a comment) to the correct theme post. You may add as many comment links in one go as you like, all 10 if you want. Or have your own thread, so you can post them throughout the day/weeks.

All I ask is that you please do not edit comments once they’re up (unless you’ve got typos or something.) In other words, please do not add extra links to comments you’ve already submitted, as they may have already been counted and this mod is only human -- I’m worried some points will get lost somewhere!

What about those leaderboards you mentioned in the previous post?

Oh, those. Unless you’re really competitive like me, try not to worry about those. I won’t bore you with the details of how I’m scoring it until after the event is over (in case you want to make sure I got your score right). Which leads me to one final point:

We absolutely don’t want to limit your participation (other than the 10 comment submission), so you’re absolutely welcome to go back to themes you’ve missed/skipped and comment for them. You can still submit to previous days until the event is over. This won’t score you as much, but I’m really hoping smashing the leaderboards isn’t your main objective anyway.

That’s it. That’s all you’ve got to do. I hope you all have fun. Maybe you’ll find a new author, and you end up sifting obsessively through every word they’ve ever written. Maybe you’ll spot an artist you’ve never seen before, and all you can do is sit and stare because they’re so amazing.

My inbox is always open, and you may ask questions below as well.  I’ll try and get back to any questions left ASAP.

Good Luck! :D

[identity profile] darkravenwrote.livejournal.com

By a pretty good portion, all of you lovelies have voted for a two week event -- which is nice for me because it means all my extra just-in-case planning won’t go to waste. Ooooh, I’m so excited.

It’s fantastic to see so many of you raring to go for the whole event. And I look forward to embracing all of our busy friends who’ll be popping by when they’ve got time.

Anyway, so this is the official announcement:

Commentfest on hd_writers will run from 20th March to 3rd April!!

Guidelines of what you need to do will be posted with the first theme. I’m going to try and post each one before noon my time (which is GMT, although the clocks change the middle weekend, sigh, of course).

I look forward to seeing you all next week. We’re going to have a blast making our fandom a ridiculously happy place over the holidays!

I'd love to see more activity here at [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers! I was thinking about trying to make one writing focused post, tip, link, article, (etc) each day in September! But then I thought how much more fun it would be if I opened the challenge up to everyone!

Is anyone interested in claiming one day this month to make a post pertaining to some kind of general HP or writing tips, encouragement, resources, apps, or anything else you think others would find interesting in their pursuit of writing!

It can literally be anything! It can be a source, a quote, a book review, something you find helpful, an image, a tumblr post! Anything at all that you find inspirational or helpful!

If you want to join in, please comment and tell me what day works for you! You can claim one day or more! Then just post your offering any time on the day of your choice!

HPFandom and TheHexFiles are looking for volunteers!

HPF & THF

The fanfiction archives HPFandom and TheHexFiles are both looking for volunteers to help move fics over to Archive Of Our Own (AO3) using the Open Doors project.

[livejournal.com profile] separatrix, HPF & THF's owner, will not be able to take on this project herself due to health issues so it's up to us fans to come together and move as much as we can in only 3 months before both sites close permanently.

If you are seriously interested in helping out please drop a comment at either [livejournal.com profile] hpfdotnet or [livejournal.com profile] hex_companion and let us know.

Useful links for someone thinking about volunteering:
The Open Doors Special Collections Gallery - Archives saved with Open Doors, where the archives will end up, hopefully.
Importing Works with an Archivist Account - A tutorial of what we'll be doing.

The archives use an early version of eFiction so each chapter has a different ID number so chaptered fics will need to be imported differently than oneshots.
- How do I import a chaptered work? (Up to 100 chapters at a time.)
- How do I import multiple works in one go? (Up to 10 oneshots at a time.)

Harry Potter Prompt Adoption

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] lyonessheart has come up with a new comm idea which we'd like to run by you all before going on to set it up.

Your opinions matter!

There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of HP prompt generating fests out there, and all of them yield absolutely fabulous results year in and year out.  But what happens to all those wonderful prompts that don't get chosen?  Unfortunately they're forgotten.

Well what if there were a special archive comm for them?  All sorted out.  All just waiting to be written.

We haven't figured out all the logistics yet.  And this is preliminary as we'd need to talk to fest mods and communicate consent with prompters.

But what do you think?  Is this a comm you'd find useful?  Would you use it?

Please leave comments.  We'd like feedback before we start on such a massive venture.

Comment Bingo Sign Ups

If any of you call merlin_writers your other home, you may have seen this event running a couple of months ago over there.  Well, SURPRISE!!!
COMMENT BINGO IS NOW COMING TO HD_WRITERS!

THIS IS YOUR SIGN UP POST!!

What is it?
Comment bingo is exactly what it sounds like! Once you sign up you'll be given a group number: 1, 2 or 3 (see 'opt in' section below for details on card 3). On 1st June the starting post will go up with all three bingo cards and useful links for you to use. And all you have to do is leave some love around the fandom! Comment on art or fic, podfic or poetry – whatever you like, wherever you like, as long as it crosses off one of your bingo squares and isn't anonymous.

Make sure you keep your links handy wherever you comment because to win the prize you'll need a list of links for a completed bingo card!!!

When is it?
Sign-ups will be open from now until the end of Friday 30th May, GMT. And the time limit for you to complete your card will be the entire month of June.

An awesome prize banner is up for grabs for one person in each group – the first person to yell BINGO!! and list their links as a comment on the starting post. Two secret banner prizes are also up for grabs. But it wouldn't be much of a secret if I told you how to win them, would it?

AND HAVE FUN!! You're reading some awesome fic, seeing some amazing art. Commenting is sending love to the incredibly talented creator! It's not a chore!

Opt IN Adult Card
This time through, an adult card will be available - card 3.  However!  As we are NOT an over 18s only comm you must OPT IN if you wish to be put into this draw.  I'm not saying you'll absolutely get it this time around but you might.  These squares will not contain any possible squicks, they will be more like 'M-rated' or a more general 'kink' square.

I'm In!  How do I sign up?
Great!  All you need to do is leave a comment below.  That's literally it.  Make sure you give me your adult card status too otherwise I'll assume you're not 18!

Questions?  Feel free to ask below.

Notes: If only a small number of people wish to take part, the groups may be subject to change.  Additionally, while I encourage you to leave extra love around, please DO NOT complete more than your assigned card as the comment bingo event may rerun and the same cards may be rotated to different people.

Hello everyone, it's that time again to check in and see how we are doing.

This is just so everyone is updated! A big thank you to everyone who have so patient with point updates while I was on holiday!

As of March 20, 2014, 12:45 pm EST, the results are:

Team Lions: 1620 POINTS
Team Snakes: 1675 POINTS (First place this week!)

You can keep a running tally for yourself on the SCORE SHEET

Just a reminder about a few things:
Week One Bingo Make UP is due: March 22, 2014 11:59 pm GMT.  (Each drabble must be 100 words per 3 points. A full bingo table will amount to 27 points total. (Each art piece is 3 points also).  Just an extra way to make up some points for your team!)

The main assignment sheet is here: Wizarding Games Assignment Sheet Assignments can be any pairing, any rating, any genre.  It does not have to be Harry/Draco (unless otherwise stated in the assignment).  You are welcome to do cross overs and get as creative as you'd like.  For example, you can have Modern!AU Merlin watching the Harry Potter movie with Arthur who is complaining about how they're different from the books! (or Sherlock, or Dean and Castiel -- really anything goes!)  We are here to encourage your writing and provide support! ♥

I hope everyone is enjoying the games!  Enjoy your week! ♥  The next tally up will be on Friday the 28th of March before the final post some time in early April!

We welcome all comments and feedback!
