YIKES! Puffs! Where are you all? And, surely we have some more Gryffs and Claws around here somewhere too! Love that spirit potential-Snakes! You're really coming out with a great crowd!

Also, Please keep in mind that while we want to please everyone, based on these numbers, some of you may need to be sorted into your second choice house in order to balance out the house numbers. This will hopefully help to ensure that it's fair and fun for everyone!

Most importantly, PLEASE tell your friends! Invite them to come and be sorted! ♥ The more people we have the more fun it will be! Plus you can earn extra credit before classes even start!

Even if we have small groups, it's still going to be lots of fun! There are just a couple more days to enroll before classes start! Official house lists will be announced on September 1!

What is “Welcome Back to Hogwarts?”
This is a different challenge then we have done before. It is a chance in get creative in the Harry Potter fandom, in a group setting, earning points to win the House Cup. Each person who signs up will be placed in a Hogwarts House as a student! (for 2 weeks at least) Every person in the house works together to earn your points.

How do we earn points for our house
By completing any “assignments” There will be a master list of assignments that will be posted, with an amount each task is worth.

How hard are these “assignments
Not hard at all! Because the challenge on lasts 2 weeks, and we wanted people to enjoy their stay at Hogwarts, the “assignments” can be easy (join us in a live chat) to harder ( Write a H/D story that is from the POV of neither Harry nor Draco), some things are off the wall (what did they serve at your welcome back feast.)

But I don’t write! This sucks because I want to go to Hogwarts!
Then come! This is Hogwarts not Durmstrang! We have things for artists and people that don’t do either.
Do I have to do everything on the assignment list?
Nope. You won't get detention with Snape for picking a choosing what you want to do. But remember the name of the game is points, so the more you do the better your house does.
Also keep an eye out for bonus points.

Bonus points?
Yes some “assignments” will have a chance to get more points, like extra credit!

Want to get a head start on that monthly pledge you just made? Have projects due thisweekomghowdidthathappen? Just have a great weekend for setting some time aside to write?

Then come join me on a word race!

This isn't a war (there is a war coming... keep watching this comm for the announcement in a little over a week!). You don't have to write more than me, and no one's going to say anything if you don't make it to the finish line. But me, I have SO MUCH due that I'm going to try to write 10k in 2 days, so I'm racing against the clock and myself.

Don't think you can do 10k? That's okay! We have shorter races, too! You can write a 5k, or if you're a miler, aim for 1.6k.

How does this work? Just comment below to say you're starting, and tomorrow I'll have a wrap up post for the finish line. You can say what projects you're working on and at the end, tell us how you did! Any distance you make is AWESOME. If you write 100 words, that's further down the road than you were before you started, right?

Don't forget, the chatzy rooms are always open. There's the serious business room where we will be focused on timed sprints (20-30 minute word wars), and there's the general room where you can talk, rest, relax, and get help with plot and focus and any issues you might come up with. Please remember that while the srs room is for all ages (please keep your conversation to a PG-13 level there), the general chat room is only for those over the age of 18.

This race is not fandom specific! While this is an H/D community, any and all writers are welcome here for the race, no matter what you are currently working on. We are united in our need for words!

The dates for the race are Saturday and Sunday, according to your local time (or Sunday and Monday... I'm flexible, okay??).

Hey guys! I've had a busy few weeks and have neglected my pet, Did You Know? Just a quick note to affirm that I'll be picking up Did You Know? again, so plan on some awesome, interesting, and sometimes surprising canon information!

There is infinite canon material to examine and discuss in Potterverse, and I hope you all will enjoy the topics I toss at you :D While we're on the subject of canon topics for Did You Know?, if you have a specific topic you'd like me to cover, by all means leave a comment to this post or email me at slytherincess[at]gmail[dot]com with any permutation of Did You Know in the subject header.

To tell you the truth, I'm really looking forward to our next topic.

Today I'm going to do a brief post on disillusionment charms. In my "Did You Know" post on Invisibility Cloaks I touched on the fact that many witches and wizards prefer a disillusionment charm to an Invisibility Cloak. Presumably, a disillusionment charm would be able to be learned by a majority of witches and wizards, can be done by a flick of the wand, and lessen the demand for Invisibility Cloaks (which are very rare and expensive). As well, we find out that Invisibility Cloaks don't stay on very well while flying. ( || WHAT IS A DISILLUSIONMENT CHARM || )

RUH-ROH!

Seriously -- aren't you surprised that Harry didn't break his glasses eleventy-billion times more than he actually did over the course of seven books? There's a nifty little fix specifically for mending broken glasses in Potterverse: Oculus Reparo. This little spell is quick, easy to learn, and dead on useful. It's the spell Hermione uses on the Hogwarts Express when she, Ron, and Harry first meet. ( || OCULUS REPARO || )

Polyjuice Potion: J.K. Rowling's gift to kink! Have you written a Polyjuice fic? Tell us about it in the comments.

All humor aside, J.K. Rowling actually put a great deal of thought and research into the ingredients of Polyjuice potion, and each ingredient has its own unique purpose within the potion.

Polyjuice is brewed using the following ingredients: lacewing flies (stewed for 21 days); leeches; powdered Bicorn horn; knotgrass; fluxweed (picked at the full moon); shredded Boomslang skin; and a wee bit of whoever the taker wishes to turn into.

Here's what J.K. Rowling says about Polyjuice: "I remember creating the full list of ingredients for the Polyjuice Potion. Each one was carefully selected. Lacewing flies (the first part of the name suggested an intertwining of binding together of two identities); leeches (to suck the essence out of one and into the other); horn of a Bicorn (the idea of duality); knotgrass (another hint of being tied to another person); fluxweed (the mutability of the body as it changed into another); and [shredded] Boomslang skin (a shedded outer body and a new inner).

The effects of Polyjuice Potion are temporary. Canon suggests that the effects of Polyjuice last only one hour; however, depending on the quality of the brew, one can actually remain Polyjuiced anywhere from ten minutes to twelve hours. Polyjuice is an immensely difficult potion to make. That Hermione managed to brew Polyjuice Potion at the age of twelve confirms her utter brilliance as a witch. A person can change race and sex via Polyjuice, but cannot change species. Polyjuice Potion is only meant for human-to-human transformations.
