21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

We welcome your participation! There is no minimum or maximum requirements for your answers -- they can be as long or as short as you'd like. I will include my answer as a comment.

I haven't yet, but I want to. The problem is that the first story is a terrible badfic and would have the be edited massively. but the sequel is so shiny ;)

In general, I have ambivalent feelings. Sometimes, sequels can enrich a story and add much more to it, making it better. Sometimes, a sequel can be just superfluous and not half as good as the original story. This especially when it takes away from the impact of the end of the story. Therefore, I didn't write some sequels I did have ideas for.

Wow, sorry *lol* I wanted to reply to the post and ended up replying to your comment. So, I did not mean to imply any of your sequels were like that!

No I haven't. I have read stories with sequels, but I don't seek them out. I like stories that stand alone, because I hate having to search for the second part or having to hunt down the first part because I started on the middle story. That can be really annoying.

Yes a few... Right now I have one I'm working on with three sequels already and I'm writing two more sequels to it. And I've written one story in Star Wars fandom that has three sequels I think. Why, because the commenters liked it so much that they wanted a sequel, so I wrote it! I love sequels, but I don't like when you can't go from one to five without having read the ones in between... all mine have been stand alone sequels; you can read them in any order and still understand what's going on, or you can read them completely separate from any of the other stories.

No, but I have no problem with sequels. I am planning some for a couple of my fics, though: my Sims 2 fic Present and a fest fic I can't claim yet.

I don't enjoy being hounded for them (that happens) but I do enjoy writing them, when there's need or I'm inspired. I am always pleased when I've read a fic that begs for a sequel and there is one (worship those right-minded authors, I do!), but...it's such a personal thing. Sometimes one feels there should be a sequel and yet it just doesn't come easily. The story has been written and it wants no more of itself. Capiche?

I've written a number of sequels to some of my oneshots as well as turned oneshots into chaptered fics so the answer would be a resounding yes!! Also right now I have several requests for a sequel to my mpreg story Snake Baby so I will probably do that soon in the future... its usually because readers request it and then I'll do it if I get enough requests!!

I've written one very planned sequel (Magic Eight Ball: The Sequel!) for [livejournal.com profile] enchanted_jae and a few standalones that string together well or were written episodically and posted separately for whatever reason. Mostly, I don't. I did far too much of that in previous fandoms and I don't care to force a story that's finished in my head. I used to try but I don't like the results. This leaves me hesitant to ask others for sequels, as I know how overbearing that can feel. I rather think it's been done--voila!--there it is and please use your imagination for the rest, yeah?
