Harry Potter Prompt Adoption

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] lyonessheart has come up with a new comm idea which we'd like to run by you all before going on to set it up.

Your opinions matter!

There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of HP prompt generating fests out there, and all of them yield absolutely fabulous results year in and year out.  But what happens to all those wonderful prompts that don't get chosen?  Unfortunately they're forgotten.

Well what if there were a special archive comm for them?  All sorted out.  All just waiting to be written.

We haven't figured out all the logistics yet.  And this is preliminary as we'd need to talk to fest mods and communicate consent with prompters.

But what do you think?  Is this a comm you'd find useful?  Would you use it?

Please leave comments.  We'd like feedback before we start on such a massive venture.

I've seen the idea spring up several times over the years, but it never pans out long term. There was a comm called Plot bunny pound [livejournal.com profile] hp_plotbunnies and a recurring fest called [livejournal.com profile] hp_adoptaprompt (that lasted about three rounds) It was the most successful of this type of comm.

My recommendation is to take a look at what's been done and then to see if you can find a new twist on the idea that will draw people in.

(or ... you could contact the owners of one of these comms and ask for permission to take over reviving them) That's an idea too.

I really like the idea of a prompt archive (in the format of an LJ comm). The prompts could be tagged, so the comm could be searched by tag. The mods could provide a template, and whoever wants to share their unclaimed prompts can self-post them (this to cut down the amount of work it would take to build up such a prompt database ;)).

I helped run two sessions for [livejournal.com profile] hp_adoptaprompt

We should get that going again!

I was thinking the same thing. It's a good place to get it restarted. They should reach out to [livejournal.com profile] amorette and see what she thinks.

I think this is a fantastic idea! There are so many wonderful prompts that I'd love to see written and unfortunately don't get claimed. I like the idea of giving these prompts a second chance!

Yes, yes and yes!!! I was just talking to [livejournal.com profile] ldydark1 the other day about that. A comm that featured prompts that people leave knowing that they won't use them and why not let someone else claim them? Every once in awhile, a plot bunny crosses my mind that I know that I could not write and do it justice, but I'd like to see it done. It would be great to have a repository for unused fest prompts too.

Yeah! I honestly don't mind giving the com over to someone who is willing to put it to better use, but there are so many mods that we'd have to clear that with all of them. I would say go ahead and start a new com if you want, but the advantage of possibly taking over hp_adoptaprompt is that there are already lots of watchers... I think it's up for discussion.

Let me email the comods and see what their thoughts are.

Or like I said, you could always start a new com if you want something totally your own! I am not one to get offended by that.

I LOVE the idea of an open prompt collection, like I said, because I have thought of it too. It's fun!

I think it's a geat idea. And not just for unused fest prompts, but also for people who want to put random plotbunnies up for adoption.

I would mostly use it for inspiration to write short oneshots, I think.

yes :) I was thinking many prompts I would love to write but I don´t like the pressure of time, or wordcount or that there are other rules that get in the way.

I'm all for it! Especially when you've signed up to contribute something, and can't think of what to do!
