Challenge Yourself. Challenge Others!

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”
― Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Leave two to five word prompts here and we’ll collect them all. Write out your heart’s desires of what you want to see, what you can’t write yourself and we’ll make a list!

Prompts will be collected for twenty four hours, then we’ll post them in a few days’ time. Writers will be asked to pick a prompt and write a gift drabble with whatever challenge.

For example:
Username: lj-user
Prompt: Candle, Snow, Kiss
Challenge: Drabble without using the word “dark.”

Comments will be screened for the moment

Value criticism.

“Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” ~Aristotle

Don't take everything said to you literally. There are times when some just don't understand you, or you don't understand them. Harsh words are harsh and can set you back, uninspire you. Remember that you are awesome and this is just a challenge you have to overcome.

What do you do?

Do you take a step back and look at your writing?

Do you simply just walk away?

Do you ever feel like just giving it all up? DON'T!

You have your own, incredible, brilliant magic. Revel in it, and bring those words out for everyone else to see. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else, and you definitely don't need to worry that you might be lacking, because you're not. Show us your magic. ~ [livejournal.com profile] tryslora

Writing Emotional Scenes

Getting a reaction from your readers is something you most likely want to accomplish with your writing. There will be moments in your story where you have to bring out some sort of heavy emotion and you want it to be good. An emotional scene comes from a variety of different factors. - (Read more at krisoel.com)

How do you approach your emotional scenes?

Are they easy to write, or do you have to prepare yourself for it?

Nobody gets it right the first time! The point is to push through the hurdles and write your heart out. Put it all down on paper/your smart phone/your docx. Go back and read it, fix it. Right now, just do it!

Simply writing down your thoughts and goals can help you get just one step closer!

What do you do to keep all your thoughts together?

While you're here, tell us how you're doing? Remember, ALL WORDS ARE AWESOME WORDS! What you have today is more than what you had yesterday! Rant, vent, ask! That's what we're here for!

Finding Your Muse
Songs, and music in general, are great ways to boost your muse. The lyrics and the melodies that you listen to can help alleviate thoughts that might load you down, making it increasingly hard to "find muse" to roleplay with. One of the more classic advices for "finding muse", but it seems to work so well. (Source: How to find your muse)

  • How do you find your muse?

  • What kind of music do you listen to?

  • Do you need complete silence?

  • Tell us!

"Let's be writing buddies!" from [livejournal.com profile] cyn_ful

Hey guys, a fabulous idea to help keep us motivated. Who all has an account at NaNo’s official website? I do!

You just have to go to NaNo and sign up. Very quick and easy to do! Once you have done this, click on search. If you put in the person’s user name and do a search, your buddy should come up. Mine is: chipps515

I just tested it with one of my buddies and it worked. I just sent NaNoMail to one of my buddies, so we can encourage as we flail or keep writing.

One other thing I love is that we get pep talks from authors during the month. On Halloween, our kick off was a great one from James Patterson.

So what are you waiting for?
[identity profile] hd-writers-mod.livejournal.com
Welcome to November!

...fondly known to so many folks as NaNoWriMo. One of the things we will bring you this month is a daily inspiration post! Either a quote, or a thought, or a picture... something (anything!) to get you writing and keep you writing, or to get you thinking about what comes next in your work.

It's a new month, and we've got a new chance to start something fresh!

Yesterday doesn't matter, it's time to move forward!

Happy Writing!

NaNoWriMo

What it is: National Novel Writer's Month! 50,000 words in 30 days! (Not fandom related! But I, personally, will be using my word count to do fandom projects! WHO WANTS TO JOIN ME!?)

The folks that bring you NaNoWriMo (write 50k words of a novel in November) are hosting TWO Camp NaNo sessions this year. And they've changed the rules! In April (and I think July) you can signup for CampNaNo and you can set your OWN goal. You don't have to write 50k. Want to write 35k? 15k? 75k? Go for it! This dovetails so nicely with our monthly pledge, PLUS you get encouragement from the NaNo group and you can log your word count daily to see a nice chart and progress and see how close you are to goal. Yes, I do NaNo for the charts. I really really do.

I think this is a great change for the CampNaNo sessions, and if you've ever wanted to try NaNo but were worried about that 50k goal, I encourage you to give it a whirl with your own goal!

To help you along with your April goals (CampNaNo or your pledge or just your regular writing), we will be hosting one weekend word sprint, and two word wars. So get ready and write write write in the coming month!

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
- Winston Churchill

You made it! Here it is, the last day of NaNo, and you are still moving onwards. And you have done brilliantly, putting words to paper, creating stories that needed to be told. However many words you made, KUDOS TO YOU.

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.
- Oprah Winfrey

What she said. You have to want more words, yes, but don't beat yourself up if you didn't get as many as you'd hoped. What you have is new and brilliant.

So tell us about it. How did you do? What did you create? What do you intend to do now?

Tell me this tomorrow at midnight. :)

But right now, you ARE fine. You're still writing, and whether you've already made 50k, or you think you'll make it by midnight tomorrow, or maybe you've only made 10k this month... YOU WROTE WORDS. And ALL WORDS ARE AWESOME WORDS.

However you've done, don't ever say you failed NaNo. You wrote, and that's an incredible achievement. So yes, you're totally fine.

While you're here, check in below and let us know how you did yesterday with your writing, and how you're doing overall! Need some encouragement or cheerleading or just a place to vent your frustrations in order to get you through the next twenty-four hours? Let us know!

Definition: A climax is a moment of great intensity in the plot of a literary work, generally bringing events to a head and leading to the conclusion.

We are nearing the end of the month, and if you are working on a single story, you should be nearing the climax, and the end can all roll downhill from there.

A typical novel will have many small climaxes throughout, as well as many times that the plot backslides, seeming to slip further from resolution. This is how conflict builds, creating tension that carries the reader through from beginning to end. It can't all be futile, so we have small successes to keep the reader happy and tuned in. But it can't all be easy, either, or else the reader will become bored and slip away.

But now... now you are coming to the big climax. The ultimate unraveling of your conflict and tying it up neatly into something starting to resemble resolution. Write those words! You have two days left after today, and the end is in sight.

While you're here, check in below and let us know how you did yesterday with your writing, and how you're doing overall! Whether you're ahead or behind, remember, ALL WORDS ARE AWESOME WORDS and just by writing you are making progress. Need some encouragement or cheerleading or just a place to vent your frustrations?
