Yep. I've worked with translators, podficcers, artists, and fanmixer, and it's always left me blown away by how awesome and talented and creative people in the fannish community are.

Usually this happens once my fic is posted, so "collaboration" from my end is mostly answering questions about what I meant--oh, my poor translators--or going through the fic for typos--oh, my podfic shame--but the fanmixer and one of the artists was for a big bang, which meant showing them my shitty first draft. I've never apologized so much for the state of a fic but they were both amazing and really, really patient. Knowing that failure on my part would directly impact them motivated the hell out of me to make that fic good but it changed a lot in the run-up to posting and in the end, I don't think I held up my side of the bargain for them. They both had great things to post--I still listen to the fanmix--but I suspect they would have made different choices if they'd had the fic I posted to work from. To add to the awkwardness, one of my betas is also an artist and she drew unofficial art for the scenes I added at the last minute...Yeah, I can't apologize to my artist and fanmixer enough. :/

Plus, [livejournal.com profile] uniquepov podficced a story close to both our hearts and she still makes me well up and wibble and flail with the emotion she put into it. She took the fic and made it hers, and I love that about it. ♥

But probably my favourite collaboration story was when the lovely Grace translated Parce-que Potter into Italian and had to change the River Thames reference, which is rather critical to the plot. It relied on a homonym that doesn't exist between French and Italian, so she went out of her way to find something that would accomplish the same thing. She ended up using tea, I think? idk. By the time she'd finished, we'd had several conversations about writing styles and authorial intent--not a fan, never will be, but apparently it's big in translation?--and the sheer fun of playing with language to express multiple meanings. idk, I nerded that convo hardcore at the time.

No, but there a couple fests/big bangs I'm currently working on that will have artist collaborations at some point. I am so excited to have my scenes illustrated! *dances*

I've wrote forum fics before, so I guess you could count that as a collaboration, even though you don't pick who you work with and how you work together xD

I've collaborated with [livejournal.com profile] slvrknight6 for a few of his Star Wars stories. Other than that nope, not yet at least! I'm excited to see if an artist chooses my work for the big bangs I'm writing though... never done them before and am looking forward to them!

Actually, I really very much enjoy collaberation but seldom have the chance. I think of my betas as collaberators, tho'. So much of their good advice rings very true and I try to write to it after I digest it. I'm a little frightened of collaberation as well. I have a distinctive style and I think it's very 'loud', mentally. It would likely annoy the bejeezus out of the other collaborator. They'd have to beat me to make themselves heard!
