Once. My fic Agent Hopkirk Say I Love You is an adaptation, a tribute, and really a "translation" of Sergei Dovlatov's short story "The Colonel Says I Love You".

I was struck both with Dovlatov's spare, autobiographical style, and the mystery that is the relationship he depicts. It screamed H/D to me, and I just had to "translate" it into the Potterverse. So out of the story of a Russian dissident emigrating to the US, in my story Harry and Draco are emigrating from an oppressive British wizarding world to St. Petersburg.

The idea of adaptations fascinates me to no end. I have been forever toying with the idea of adapting Ang Lee's movie Lust ... Caution to a sequel of [livejournal.com profile] frayach's "The Good Guys". Perhaps one day, I'll write it. ♥

Nope, but I've given it some serious consideration. *makes eyes at the bare! A Pop Opera soundtrack*

Start with a Strong and Persistent Desire (http://hereticalvision.livejournal.com/49949.html), When Draco Malfoy returns to England after years abroad, a chance meeting with his old rival Harry Potter quickly leads to all-consuming sexual obsession. But when that obsession turns destructive neither of them will survive unscathed. NC-17, 15,000 words.

This fic is a reworking of "No Night is Too Long", closer in spirit to the film than the book I think. The reason why it is so tempting may vary but for me it was a great release - part homage, part desire to stamp my own identity on both sets of canon, and partly "Yay! I don't have to plot this!" Character moments are much more fun than plot IMO. The best fusion I ever read was in Angel fandom and it was effective because it took a very well-known world and then played around with assigning the Angel characters their roles in the story - sometimes you thought you knew who was who and then it changed right in front of you. Seamless and original, brilliant!

I did a, loose, HP fic in the vein of RENT for travel_fair last year(?). I am revising it now. But it was a lot of fun, I fell in love with that Harry. And, funnily enough, I hated him just as much as I loved him. :) *dashes off to write more*

Hmmm, I'm not sure if it would completely count as it's only one of many story lines in the movie, but sort of yeah! The Only Thing (http://meglw0228.livejournal.com/6015.html) is based off the movie Valentine's Day. It's specifically based off the two gay men at the end of the movie, and my thoughts on how they got to that point.... Just with Harry and Draco instead!

Yes; I wrote a Fred/George fic based on Wuthering Heights. Like the book, it's rather dark and depressing, but it's my favorite of the fics I've written so far. It features Dobby as Nelly Dean and Scorpius as Mr. Lockwood.

Yes I wrote a short Beauty and the Beast fic that was using Harry Potter characters so I think that counts and btw, it was abysmal!! :D

Broadly, both my fics for remix_redux have been adaptations of political theory set in HP fandom. Bellum omnium contra omnes (the Ancient History remix) (http://archiveofourown.org/works/86069) is Hobbesian theory on the nature of state through Percy Weasley; Basio (the Roll Over, Catallus mix) (http://archiveofourown.org/works/188776) is a Draco-centric reworking of Machiavelli's The Prince. *koff*

And then there's fear and loathing at the Phoenix (http://curiouslyfic.livejournal.com/7884.html#cutid1), which is Hunter S. Thompson's gonzo classic, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, H/D-style.
