NaNoWriMo 2011 || Con Crit
Sep. 6th, 2011 01:19 amHello peeps!
We've been discussing NaNoWriMo 2011 and wanted to bring to topic to the community to see how we can best support the efforts of any
hd_writers members during the month of November, as they work on NaNoWriMo.
In case not everyone is familiar, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, wherein beginning November 1, 2011, you set out to write at least 50,000 words of a new novel during the month of November.
You'll note here that fan fiction is sanctioned for NaNoWriMo, so, yes, we can write a new fic for NaNoWriMo. The guidelines are very strict, however, that you must start fresh with a new fic or original novel. This means unfinished WIPs are not eligible for NaNoWriMo participation.
However, we want to be supportive of all you writers, and so we'd like to know:
- Would you like NaNoWriMo activities and encouragement from
hd_writers?
- Would a daily check-in post during the month of November, where you can post your word count and/or progress bars, be helpful?
- Would you like a separate set of activities paralleling NaNoWriMo to work with unfinished WIPs?
- We were thinking that although this is a Harry/Draco community, pairings of all types would be allowable for purposes of writing a novel during NaNoWriMo -- how do you feel about this?
- Would extra posts on writing tips and SPaG FYIs be helpful during the month of November?
- What other ideas or needs do you have for NaNoWriMo?
Your feedback is encouraged and welcome!

The Con Crit Exercise will be coming this week. The goal of the con crit exercise is to show how to give con crit and what the difference between con crit and deconstructive criticism is. Per
dulcemia's suggestion, I will be con critting my own fic first, and you all will have the opportunity to add onto my criticisms, too. Five community members have submitted fics for this exercise; I will likely post one fic per month, with commentary on con crit and how to utilize it. So, yes, this is coming up soon!

Everyone have a fabulous Tuesday!

- Would a daily check-in post during the month of November, where you can post your word count and/or progress bars, be helpful?
Yes. The NaNo site doesn't really have one-on-one daily encouragement, so it'd be nice to get that here.
- Would you like a separate set of activities paralleling NaNoWriMo to work with unfinished WIPs?
Yes! Yay NaNo rebels!

MY THOUGHTS: This is one of the best communities, if not THE best, for writing encouragement I've seen, H/D or otherwise. I've written H/D and plan to write H/D in the future, but the pairing isn't my only one. I'd hate to be excluded from the support here just because I'm not writing H/D (or even in the HP fandom, for that matter) at any particular moment. So, yeah, I'm all for opening up NaNo support to non-H/D.
- Would extra posts on writing tips and SPaG FYIs be helpful during the month of November?
Writing tips, definitely. Maybe SPaG would be better left for after NaNo for editing purposes, since a polished manuscript isn't the goal in November.
- What other ideas or needs do you have for NaNoWriMo? Word Wars!

Date: 2011-09-13 05:31 pm (UTC)I'm not sure I'll be participating in nano but more activities is always a good thing to encourage writing of any kind!

Yes :)

Definitely!

Great! h/d is what brings us all together but I'm sure most of us write other pairings and even fandoms also.
- Would extra posts on writing tips and SPaG FYIs be helpful during the month of November?
ANything to support writing is great!
- What other ideas or needs do you have for NaNoWriMo?
Can you get me a time turner? That's what I really need ^_~

Date: 2011-09-14 01:30 am (UTC)I'm not doing NaNoWriMo, but if you include all writers then definitely! I have 3 BB's due around that time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Absolutely!
- Would you like a separate set of activities paralleling NaNoWriMo to work with unfinished WIPs?
Sure!

It's an excellent idea!

Absolutely!

If you do the writing tips, I'd suggest a post about the difference between 'lay' and 'lie' and when to use which... it's a problem quite a few authors I've betaed for recently have had a problem with. Also, I know the comm itself hosts one word war a month with prizes, but maybe one a week in November; something a bit more laid back that way the mods don't have to do too much. Other than that, a time-turner please! I think I'll be needing another 30 days by the end!
