Hey guys . . .

I'm wondering if, for fests, you've ever written some extreme kinks for someone else, that you wouldn't write otherwise? One of my fest recipients has requested an extreme kink and I'm thinking about actually writing it. Personally, I can't imagine writing this kink without having nipped down several bottles of wine first *wink* . . . how do you all write kinks that are way outside your normal comfort level? I've been researching the kink in question and . . . yeah. Lots of wine. >:0

Help?

ETA: If anyone feels like chatting, I'm in the HD Writers chatroom, working on some writing. Would love some company!

I think (thought I haven't done it) that lots of wine would be exactly how I got through that. Then again, I squirmed so hard through my first actual sex scene (and not in the good squirmy way) that I thought I might just throw my computer and cry. And now, well, that's considerably less of a problem. But it took wine. Copious amounts of it, and maybe some gin. Which is probably not altogether a helpful answer to your question, but that's pretty much actually my answer to how I get through anything outside my comfort level.

Oddly, it's served me well so far... :) Good luck!

Heh, the first time I wrote CBT was for a fest where my recipient wanted them. Never written either before and wasn't particularly interested in either, until I started writing them. I had to research CBT and wound up fascinated by it, now it's one of my favourite kinks to see. If nothing else, trying to write a new kink can be fun, and if all else fails, just don't include it if it still isn't working for you. But hey, could surprise yourself once you get it going!!

Cock and Ball Torture, and was where my first experience writing an "OMG, really?" kink came from as well.

I tried to get into the mindset of someone who'd enjoy it, and I think I was a little more mild in my depiction of the kink than someone who really enjoyed it. I'm not like Steph, I've never sought it out again, but it was an interesting challenge to take on.

As long as the kink doesn't actually sqick you when you're doing the research (even just the names of some of them warn me off) then you should be able to distance yourself enough to write it convincingly - and writing any subject that's new can lead to some original fic - you won't already have all the cliches cluttering up your mind.

Which, if you pull it off, will probably please your recipient - and others who like that kink and want a different take on it.

I find it helps to try and think about why someone might enjoy the kink, even if it's not really your thing. Certainly that's what does it for me. Not so much that Character A enjoys Kink 1, but what Character A gets out of it. And maybe what Character B gets out of helping Character B. What is it about the kink that turns the character/s on?

Kinda curious as to the kink, now.
