In 2005 the Arctic Monkeys released their single "Fake Tales of San Francisco," which includes a fictional audience member's observation that "the band were fucking wank and I'm not having a nice time." In the last eighteen months or so, the Arctic Monkeys have universally adopted the "safe for tv" version of the lyrics, regardless of venue. This version says "the band weren't very good and I'm not having a nice time." Why would anyone give up the opportunity to get paid and applauded for yelling "FUCKING WANK" with thousands of people on a regular basis? At the moment, I'm finding this deeply perplexing.
