It's Wednesday!

Some of us are feeling tired and run-down. Some of us can't wait for the weekend to finally come. And some of us have already thrown our plot bunnies into the ether.

But never fear, Quick Quill Quotes is here!

Take up your Biros and Ballpoints! Brandish your sharpener and retrieve that dreaded red marker from its dusty corner! Flex those fingers!

The current week's theme is: Dialogue

This can be anything related to Dialogue Is there a witty repartee bouncing around between characters? Are feelings being murmured under the cover of darkness? Or are there arguments waking people in the dead of night?

We’ll love to read anything you give us!

So give us a snippet of a current piece you're working on, don't be shy! Whether there's only one word related to the theme or it's a devoted sonnet, we want to hear about it.

Don’t have anything related to this weeks theme? No problem. A new drabble within the word limit is an excellent contribution as well! Only got 50 words? So what? Every word counts!

Entering and Rules

The snippet or drabble must be 400 words or under. It should be a new drabble OR from a current work. It should also, however loosely, be related to this weeks theme.

To participate, simply leave your contribution as a comment below.

Posting will close Wednesday 23rd October at 00.00 GMT

Don't be afraid to cheer on your fellow writers!

Good Luck!

Note: Even after posting closes feel free to let a well-deserving author know how much you loved their snippet! Comments on entries do not close!

And remember to warn for porn!

This is a snippet of dialogue from my story 'The perfect match.' It is a WIP. This is a dialogue between Ron and Harry where they're arguing about Harry's friendship with Draco...among other things. It is 338 words in length and it is a part of a longer conversation.
...

"What?! Why? What does that ferret want with you?" Ron spluttered.

Harry's face hardened. But he kept his cool. "How unoriginal of you, Ron. Surely you can come up with a better insult than that," he said, in a nearly pitch perfect imitation of Draco.

Ron continued to splutter. "You...you're even talking like him," he said.

"Well he is my friend and I've been spending a lot of time with him lately," Harry said as if it was no big deal.

"You're friends?! With that...that git?" Ron spat.

"Yes and I suggest that you stop insulting him."

"But Harry, why?"

"Because I like him, that's why."

"But..."

"Let it go, Ron. Draco is my friend and there's nothing you can do about it. He was there for me when I needed him; he helped me every way he could and I'm not about to let him go," Harry said firmly.

"But Harry, you have me and Hermione, you don't need...him," Ron said plaintively.

Harry's only response was to raise his eyebrows. It took Ron a couple of seconds to notice the hole that he'd walked into, there.

He coloured. "I mean, I know I haven't been much of a friend, lately, but Harry, you have to understand...Ginny's my sister."

Harry snorted. "It's always something, Ron. You fought me about the divorce even though Ginny wanted it too. You made me feel like I was the only one responsible for the failure of my marriage; you kept telling me that I need to try harder. You didn't once stop to think about what I want or what might make me happy. And while Hermione understood, she wasn't there for me either, because she had to be there for Ginny. So what was I supposed to do? Deal with everything myself until Hermione had the time for me or wait around for you to get your head out of your arse long enough to see things the way they are instead of the way you think they ought to be?"

I have been posting it since January, only it is not up on LJ. It is what call my unintended epic. It is already 59 chapters and more than 140k words long and it looks set to go on for a while. This particular snippet is from chapter 58. The story features both Albus/ Scorpius and Draco/ Harry. Here's the link to the story on FF (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8950692/1/The-Perfect-Match). I have started posting this on LJ but so far only two chapters are up.

I can't believe you've got 59 chapters! That's a lot of writing! :)

Out of curiosity (because most of my fic are at short to mid range right now), how do you get the stamina for such long fic? Like, do you come to it and dabble in it when you're bored, or do you actively write it? Do you plot it out from the beginning, or do you see where it takes you?

(Oops, [livejournal.com profile] darkravenwrote, I think I just hijacked this into a Practice Corner instead!)

I like to take my time with my stories, which is why they tend to be long. I never plot it all out in the beginning. I can't. I usually start with an idea and once I start writing it, the inspiration comes. I could never write such a long story for a fest because has a deadline and I can't have anyone reading it before post. But this is a WIP that i update every week. And all the comments that I get from my readers encourage me to keep going on. I average around 2500 words per chapter and that is easy enough to do in a week.

When I started writing this story, I didn't think it would be so long. But a whole lot of sub plots came up as I was writing it and I just went with them. My readers told me that they liked the sub plots and they wanted to see more. So what started as the story of one couple, now features multiple pairings (two main and three secondary pairings) and a family drama that grew around the story of all the couples.

I never have my stories all plotted out. I begin with characters and their motivations and interactions and plot usually evolves.

I love how QQQ coincides exactly with what I've writing. Every time ^_^

Anyway, given below is in excerpt from a fic I posted today. By coincidence, it's complete dialogue and worked pretty well in the context, even though 4 different characters were involved in conversation:

Crunch.

“Hey! There’s no salsa with these nachos!”

“Ouch! That’s my arm-rest, Black. Use your own!”

“Oh, take it to the Wizengamot.”

“Shh!”

“Guys!” Harry snapped. “Seriously!”

“Heh. Don’t you mean ‘siriusly’?”

“Harry, I need to go again.”

“Not now, Teddy…”

Crunch. Crunch.

“Oi! Those are my nachos!”

“Take it to the Wizengamot, Black.”

“That’s it! If you don’t start behaving yourselves, Merlin help me I’m going to...Teddy, don’t you dare turn purple, you hear me?!”

“Shhhhh!!”

Would probably make more sense if you read the fic here (http://dracogotgame.livejournal.com/61408.html)

A little bit of dialogue that I enjoyed writing for my newly posted fic (http://slashedsilver.livejournal.com/15228.html) for the Fluffy Halloween Fest:

"Ouch!" a muffled thump sounded on the other side of the door. A vampire, swathed in brilliant red, edged gingerly out from behind the door.

"Potter!" Draco wheezed, clutching his heart. "What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for you," Potter replied, green eyes wide and adoring, though his hand continued to rub his forehead. The expression did something to Draco's insides, and he had to look away from Potter's eyes. Thankfully, he had a good excuse.

"Let me see that," Draco ordered. "Take your hands away from your head."

Potter's answering grin was positively lascivious. "Would you like me to put them anywhere else in particular?"

"No!" Draco yelped, trying to banish his inappropriate thoughts. He forced himself to look sternly at Potter. "Do you want me to look at your bump or not?"

"Only if you look at something else after that," Potter said with a saucy wink.

"That's it," Draco declared firmly. He raised his voice and addressed Potter. "You can walk around with that lump on your head for the rest of the night. I'm not going to care."

Potter's arms snagged him around his waist as he tried to walk away. "Don't go! I'll behave."

"You'd better," Draco muttered, but then relented and reached out to examine the bump more closely. For such messy hair, it was surprisingly soft, and Draco couldn't help but run his fingers through them longer than was strictly necessary for him.

"Found what you're looking for?" Potter said, voice slightly breathless. His face was too near, and when Draco met his eyes automatically to respond, his breath caught at the sight of Potter, closer to him than he'd ever been before. Potter's tongue snaked out and swiped over his bottom lip, and Draco's eyes followed the movement. "Draco?"

Draco watched Potter's mouth form the vowels, and then lift into a knowing smirk, and wondered if it was possible to get tipsy on someone else's breath.

I totally know what you mean! And don't worry, the rest of the fic definitely fits that ;) I kept wishing I could read it in a comic instead of write it!

And yes! There are QQQs that come when I've just written something that fits the bill, and then there are QQQs that inspire a new section of fic, or a new fic entirely. So it's definitely helping! It's just that when I come off finishing a fic, there's a bit of inertia I need to overcome before I can write a new one entirely. But on dry days, QQQ is perfect :) Thanks for always posting them!

“I never snuck out after curfew.”

“Drink up, Georgie.” The twins laughed as they both downed their drinks.

“Oh, oh, I have a good one!” Colin spoke up. The others looked at him as Susan stepped into the group, placing her hand on the back of the chair Ron was sitting in. “I never saw Harry naked.”

“Ewww, Colin” a chorus sang out. Just about everyone there took their shots.

“What about you, pretty lady? Have you seen Harry naked?” It was Fred that asked.

Susan laughed. “Yes, I have, but I didn’t have a drink.”

“Sirius, pour the lady a drink. We must get better company here. So, Colin, you know the secret to seeing Harry naked? Don’t stalk him and he will probably change his clothes in front of you. He does it fifty times a day I think.”

The pirate, Sirius, handed Susan a drink. “So, what be your name, lil lady?”

Susan smiled at the pirate accent. “Must you have the real one or shall we go with Veronica?”
