Did you Finish a Thing?: Both drabbles are of course done. My WiP is one chapter away from being finished...another 500 words, I'd say.

I have a somewhat elaborate spreadsheet that I've been using since the beginning of 2012 or so because I found that it really helped me be productive, so I totally get that keeping record of words works! Even when I get 0 words in a day (er, or a week), I can see how on other days I get a lot done, so it all averages out in the end.

Allison shrugs. “Sometimes things don’t happen quite the way you think they will. Like, let’s take Lydia falling for an asshole lacrosse player who likes to pretend he’s an idiot. No wait… that’s a match made in heaven.”

“We enjoy being bitchy together, and it makes it much simpler when we don’t have to hide our genius from each other,” Lydia points out.

“Stiles isn’t an asshole,” Cora blurts out.

“Stiles?” Lydia gives her an odd look. “Who said anything about Stiles? My boyfriend’s name is Jackson.”

“Oh. Of course.” Because she probably wasn’t supposed to let that slip. And now Lydia’s looking at her as if she’s a bug under a microscope, a slow smile starting to bloom that lights her expression.

“Oh, I see,” Lydia murmurs. “Our wee Hale has it bad for Stilinski.”

Cora’s heart drops into her shoes. “Shut up.”

“He’s cute, if you’re into that. A bit dorky.”

“Well, so am I.” Cora licks her lips. “I’m planning a Star Wars marathon with Isaac this weekend, if I can figure out how to get Derek out of the basement.”

“And Stiles keeps yelling at Scott because he hasn’t seen it yet. He’s been threatening to…” Allison grins. “Invite us.”

Wow, impressed! Those are some big words, esp. considering most of them were made in the last two days. And, yes, writing while camping is a definite win!

Thanks! And yeah, once we stopped running all over the place doing stuff, and just sort of settled in to relax, I was able to steal some writing time. It'll make up for the part where I may not get to write much of the rest of the week, until the weekend.

Anything To Share (flailing, squeeing, sobbing, etc.)? I set a lot of unrealistic goals for myself, so I'm not to bothered when I don't make them. This has helped me see how fast (or rather how slow) I write. It is a really good thing I write everyday, because I only get a few hundred words done a day.

A few hundred words a day is nothing to sneeze at!! As long as you're making forward progress, you're doing fine. One of the biggest things to learn as a writer is to be able to estimate things (expected length of story, time it'll take to write, stuff like that). And you're on the path to figuring that out. (I talk like this makes sense, and I still haven't figured it out myself sometimes)

And then after I posted (it was already after midnight) this I ended up writing that 1,900 word drabble combo; I was really excited writing it. That was my problem, I needed to get excited about what I was writing.

There's a thing I've seen going around tumblr which is all about how writing is either 5 words an hour, or sit down and watch 1000 pour out before you can stop... and I think that's true. There's a point where the story starts writing itself! When you get excited about it. :) Yay words!!
