Don't forget!
Aug. 27th, 2013 08:32 amThe new word war is just about to start for some of you, but have you checked out of the last one yet?
If you haven't let us know how you did on the last word war, please stop by the check out post and tell us how it went for you.
The check-in for the new war will be up later today, hopefully roughly in time for those on the other side of the world to get started at midnight. Let's get ready for a nice long war!

Date: 2013-08-27 01:27 pm (UTC)A word war is just that... from midnight at the beginning to midnight at the end, you write in hopes of achieving your goals (whatever they are) during that time period. And while we do post "winners" at the end, the person you are really warring against is yourself and your goal. Although if you need a push to write during a particular time, folks do go into our srs chat room and do what are called timed word wars, where everyone writes frantically for a period of time (usually 30 minutes), then talks about what they did and how many words they got, at the end.
When the check-in post goes up, you can sign up with a goal (how many words you think you'll write during the total length of the war) and any additional goals (finish a particular fic, outline something, whatever). When midnight of the start hits in your time zone, start writing (and tracking your words). Every day we'll post a check-in where you can tell us your progress so far and we will CHEER YOU ON MADLY. At the end, let us know how you did, and there are NO PENALTIES for not making goal.
The whole goal is that at the end of the war, hopefully folks have more words than they did at the start, however many or few they are!
This particular war is going to be much longer than usual. Most of the wars are 2-4 days long, but this one is 6 days (wait'll folks see what I've got planned for the end of the year...). If you can't write the whole time, that's fine; we've all got RL things going on. Just sort of figure when you can write, what you figure you can write during that time, and set your goal based on that. Me, I'm going camping during this war (with internet, so I'll still be cheering folks on), so I need to set my goal based on hiking and biking interruptions. :)

Date: 2013-08-27 02:14 pm (UTC)Thanks! My goal is to either lock myself away from the family, or send them off to swim while I get to sit in front of the fire with my laptop and writing. It's a goal, anyway!

(also the moment the words "word war" appears, all creative juices dry up like an apple in the desert.)
