...but the important point here is not that you have—or don’t have—what other artists have, but rather that it doesn’t matter. Whatever they have is something needed to do their work—it wouldn’t help you in your work even if you had it. Their magic is theirs. You don’t lack it. You don’t need it. It has nothing to do with you. Period.
-- from "Art & Fear" by David Bayles and Ted Orland

You have your own, incredible, brilliant magic. Revel in it, and bring those words out for everyone else to see. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else, and you definitely don't need to worry that you might be lacking, because you're not. Show us your magic.

While you're here, check in below and let us know how you did yesterday with your writing, and how you're doing overall! Whether you're ahead or behind, remember, ALL WORDS ARE AWESOME WORDS and just by writing you are making progress. Need some encouragement or cheerleading or just a place to vent your frustrations? Let us know!

So, I am not participating in NaNoWriMo, but I wanted to tell you that I find these posts lovely and inspirational nonetheless. :D Thanks for sharing them!

This is a great quote! I ammmm at 45k and I really want to cross 50 today, but more importantly, I really really want to finish the part I'm on. It's the one I know is going to give me trouble because it's the one I'm pantsing through. I think I've written myself into a corner and I'm not entirely sure how to go from point C to point D from here, but I won't get anything done not writing.

So I should probably get back to it now instead of scrolling through LJ, huh? <.< >.>

This was just what I needed to read today. I was reading a really well written book yesterday, and thought that I would never be able to write like that. And I won't. But that's okay. Because, maybe, with lots of practice, my writing will be just as good, but in my own style.

I've done really well this weekend. I wrote 2k+ yesterday, and I allready rounded 1.5k today. My story is taking off in a new direction, that I'm looking forward to exploring. I gave up writing fanfic for NaNo, because writing in English is so slow for me, and it was depressing to write for hours and only have a few pages to show for it. So now I'm focusing on some original work, in my native language, and it's a lot quicker and easier. I'm writing historical fantasy for older children, and I promised my 9 year old daughter a chapter every few days for her to read. It's a great way to keep me motivated, because I know she'll yell at me, if I'm late. She's a very strict editor :-)

That's a great reminder. I always compare my writing with that of others and only see what it's missing. Thank you for the quote :)
