Harry sighed as he placed the dishes up in the cabinet. He had one of the worst rows with Draco in the history of their relationship. It reminded him of the screaming matches they had when they were in Number 12, Grimmauld Place, planning their next attack during the war. He thought they were past that, but it looked like they weren’t.
Harry groaned in frustration and slammed his fist against the counter. He didn’t want to lose Draco, the love of his life, but he didn’t know what to do. He pressed his hands to his face as angry tears pricked his eyes.
What am I going to do? Harry placed the last dish away and shuffled over to the living room. He plopped down on the couch with a heavy sigh and leaned his head back against the cushions.
“What will I do?” Harry whispered.
“Maybe talk to your husband.”
Harry’s head shot up as Draco stood in front of him. He was ready for another insult or his patent glare, but didn’t get anything. Draco took a seat next to him and looked at Harry out the corner of his eye.
“Do you want to talk?”
“Do you?”
“I do. I was angry because after fifteen years you continue to do the same thing.”
“Yeah and I don’t know what it is.”
Draco grumbled in irritation. He took Harry’s hand and linked their fingers together. “You continue to think that you have to save the world when you don’t. That’s not your responsibility anymore, but you act as if the world will end if you go on vacation for even the smallest time. I don’t want to wake up one day and you regret that you weren’t able to enjoy life. That’s what I want Harry; for you to take a break and not worry about trying to save the world.”
Harry sat speechless from Draco’s words. He looked up and bit his lip as his stomach start twisting in knots from the concern in Draco’s eyes. The last time he saw Draco so open, so vulnerable was at the final battle. Harry’s eyes widened when it clicked. He pulled Draco close and nuzzled his hair.
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize I fell into that role again. It’s just hard to break out of.” Harry whispered sadly.
Draco pulled back and squeezed his hand. “You don’t have to do it alone.”
“You’re right I don’t.” Harry smiled as he squeezed back.
Draco grinned and closed the gap between them with a soft kiss.
There were more things to talk about, but Harry felt they were off to a good start.
