IN CELEBRATION OF THE 2O12 LONDON OLYMPICS
THE H/D GO FOR THE GOLD GAMES 2O12
ARE OFFICIALLY DECLARED
OPEN!

Welcome to the 2012 H/D Go For the Gold games! We hope you'll suit up and join us for two brilliant weeks of H/D-themed mellow writing games and friendly word count competitions, as we celebrate H/D along with the Olympic games in London. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are available in your favorite event, as you work to increase your word count, learn new grammar skills, hand out gold medals to your personal favorite 2012 H/D stories*, hone your word choice skills with 100 word-themed drabbles, participate in writing relays with a fellow H/D writer, run sprints (Word Wars), and more!
We start now with our opening ceremony and you are invited to introduce yourself, declare your participation, and tell us a little about you! Use our template for some fun Olympic-themed questions, but don't worry -- our games are less about competeing against each other and more about fun and camaraderie. You won't be earning points and there are no official teams, so choosing a country to represent and selecting a sport are really just for kicks and won't actually effect your quest for the gold!
EVERYONE IS WELCOME AND INVITED TO PARTICIPATE!
Q: May I sign up at any point during the games?
A: Of course! You are more than welcome to join in whenever you'd like.
Q: How do I introduce myself?
A: To become a Go For the Gold writer, just copy the template in the scroll box below, paste it into a comment, fill in the info, and post. You can tailor your blurbs in fanciful terms of your favorite sport, or use regular words if you prefer.
Q: Which sports may I choose from?
A: This image lists all the events being held at the London games:

Q: I reviewed the template and I don't understand Tricks, Deductions, or Previous Medals. Can you explain?
A: Sure. For an example of these answers, you can view

Country: United States of America
Going For the Gold In: Gymnastics
Tricks: I like to twirl, spin, and vault my way into a solid story with snippets of beautiful words and a plot you can really sink your teeth into. I can write back-and-forth dialogue like snappy rows of backward handsprings. I reign myself in after the initial exuberance and find the balance of a story and make sure I pace my plot very carefully. I like to totally stick my dismounts, if you will, and end a story with a real bang!
Deductions: Adverb abuse! Overuse of melodrama. An affection for Filch.
Goals: I would like to make progress on my
Previous Medals: I've written four H/D fics. On License written for

Country: Madagascar (because of the lemurs!)
Going For the Gold In: Solo synchronized swimming
Tricks: I think that my dialogue is usually witty and natural, and my plot bunnies never fail to serve me well. Also, I've gotten a lot of compliments on characterization, but that's just simple mimicry, isn't it? >_>
Deductions I'm impatient, so I often rush stories and developing relationships, resulting in a very depressing lack of the much-loved UST. And I'm also going to go with adverb abuse....
Goals: To write. *cough*
Previous Medals: I've written nine H/Ds which can all be found here (http://jakuako.livejournal.com/28932.html#cutid1) except for my most recent, my 2012 Glompfest entry (http://serpentinelion.livejournal.com/357949.html).

Country: Djibouti (because why not?)
Going For the Gold In: Cycling - Road
Tricks: I can time trial 1000 words in 30 minutes, climb through incredibly difficult characterizations, and make sharp turns into angstville. If it doesn't hurt, it isn't good enough. While not a sprinter, I can still put forth a strong wattage in the end to nearly always finish in time. I have a strong grasp of basic handling skills, including SPAG and outlining.
Deductions I usually don't break away and steal the show in terms of audience reception. Also, I don't train very often (I write in very large chunks of time). In addition, I have the tendency to get bored and half-ass things at the end.
Goals: SnarryBB is basically done so we won't put that in the goals. For the next two weeks, I want to finish
Previous Medals: Masterlist (http://ashiiblack.livejournal.com/2808.html#cutid1), please particularly note Like a Pair of Leather Trousers (http://ashiiblack.livejournal.com/5038.html), A Collection of Beastly Moments (http://hd-smoochfest.livejournal.com/88609.html), and let's get lost in your ferrari (http://www.mediafire.com/?15c1cln5br81a53). Let's not forget I also won the Least Coherent in

Country: USA
Going For the Gold In: Men's Gymnastics
Tricks: A natural sense of pacing and flow. I can string words together in a pleasing and sometimes dynamic way, and I try for that little bit of elusive uniquness.
Deductions My mounts tend to be slow and I am overly self-critical. I have issues with endurance and my routines, while solid, are on the brief side. And sometimes my inspiration is missing altogether.
Goals: To pick up the pace and get my head in the game. I want to feel that desire in my gut again. To commit and follow through.
Previous Medals: I've written a few short H/D ficlets. I can't link to specific ones right now because I seem to have forgotten how to properly put links under a cut. I will add it here when I have time to figure it out again. In the meantime, clicking on my LJ name will get you to my page and my Masterlist link is at the top.

Going For the Gold In: Trampoline (that sounds fun and bouncy!)
Tricks: I'm best wtih fluff, pwp, dialogue and characterization. I have a decent handle on spag basics and flow.
Deductions Plot and length are my biggest weaknesses. My endurance leaves something to be desired. And when I fall off, I find it hard to get back up again.
Goals: To catch up on my commitments (including
Previous Medals: My Masterlist. A couple of my personal favorites are: Narcissa Knows (565 words), Draco's Desire (1223 words), and Caress (5077 words).
PS: I love all the yellow O's <3

Going For the Gold In: Rhythmic Gymnastics (one of my favorite events)
Tricks: I'm good at dialogue, romance, making a cloud of fluff for one to lay on and fall asleep happily, and aces at humor
Deductions Plot and consistency tend to allude me. I'm not good at angst or conflict or trying to make a long complicated plot. I'm also not good technical wise and want to write them having the relationship not the slow build up it takes.
Goals: To finish
Previous Medals: I have 51 drabbles under my name in

Country: New England (or Yankee)
Going For the Gold In: Taekwondo of course!
Tricks: characters, angst, romance, reluctant narrators, smut, kink
Deductions plot, short fics, PLOT, things involving eras earlier than the books
Goals: secret project I just took on today (5k?), turn in deflower draco, finish merlinmpreg, start samhainsmut, start sexstars, finish original short story, work on kink bingo... nah, i don't have many plans
Previous Medals: I have 21 H/D fics listed on my masterlist (which is flocked, but honestly, if you friend me and want me to friend you back so you can see my fic posts, I'm happy to do it), or you can find them on my AO3 account (which reminds me that my masterlist is out of date, because oh look, there are two more H/D fics).

Going For the Gold In: Archery
Tricks: I'm rather good at Crack!fic or fluffy goodness.I'm all for the cute stuff! Also like to be very detailed in fics about everything, and often overuses the monologue.
Deductions Dialogue! Also serious!fic, can't really seem to get the hang of it.
Goals: Start on my fic for
Previous Medals: My fics can be found on my LJ. Others that I have written are Come for me for

Going For the Gold In: I'm so tempted to go with hockey. My number will be 61.
Tricks: I have a collection of slapshots to my name, and I find that I assist my teammates often and when they need it. I enjoy the ground work and finer details of the game, and am good on my feet. I'm excellent with remembering opponents, teammates, and the rules. I've got some good endurance runs under my belt, but I like short sprints just as much. (Er... plot, length, angst, canon details, descriptions.)
Deductions I've had an overly long dry spell lately, and I'm fighting my way through it by attending practices again.
Goals: Um... just realised none of the projects I'm working on are strictly H/D. The pairing may crop up though, yet. Generally, I'm just writing what comes and working on an unofficial angst card.
Previous Medals: My materlist is here (http://talekayler.livejournal.com/17991.html#cutid1).

Going For the Gold In: Beach Volleyball
Tricks: I'm best with fluff and humor. I'm also fairly good with grammar and not a completely terrible speller.
Deductions Plot and length are my biggest problem areas. Also not great with angst.
Goals: If I am picked for
Previous Medals: My masterlist is here (http://sophia-clark.livejournal.com/6800.html). Not included on that is my Glompfest entry, which is here (http://serpentinelion.livejournal.com/357705.html).

Country: Great Britain!
Going For the Gold In: Fencing
Tricks: Darkfic and angst, starting stories and my characters are my strengths I'd say
Deductions Endings. It can take me forever and a day to end a fic! I know when my fic is finished, but I can never end it. I also have a hard time with summaries and titles!
Goals: I have a lot of fics to write! I'd also like to be more confident in my writing
Previous Medals: My Masterlist is here (http://scarletladyy.livejournal.com/9915.html). I've written 9+ Harry/Draco fics :)
