We had a lot of questions about word wars this time around so we've compiled a FAQ. It will probably grow and change as we recieve new questions but for now here's some more information about word wars at [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers .  If you have any questions that haven't been covered feel free to direct them here!

Word War FAQ:

1.       What is a word war?

Essentially, a word war is timed writing. Participants get together and set a time limit – say, 10 minutes or half an hour – and then write as much as they can in that time period. Authors are allowed to work on any project, and as many different ones as they like. You can edit or write – so long as there is some creative work being done. At the end of the time slot, authors post how many words they have written, be it 10 or 800. Every word brings you that much closer to your goal!

2.       How do I participate?

If it is a word war hosted by this community over a designated time period there will be a check in post. Comment with your initial word count. If you haven’t written anything yet your initial word count should be zero. When the time period has expired reply to your original comment with your final word count. That’s all! Easy as pie :D

3.       I want to participate but I am not writing H/D. Do my words still count towards the word war?

Yes. Even though this is an H/D community our primary goal is to support and encourage writers. You don’t have to write H/D, HP, or even fanfic to have your words included in the word war. We support original fic and all other types of creative writing.

4.       Do I have to participate in the word war chatrooms for my words to count?

No. You may write on your own, just post your word count at the end of the war.

5.       I’m co-writing a fic. Can I count all of the written words towards my final word count?

No. Two people should NOT take credit for the same words. If you and your co-author forgot to keep track you are more than welcome to split words up anyway you choose. However this is between the two authors.

6.       I helped another author by writing a scene in their fic. Can I include these words in my final word count?

If both individuals are participating in the [info]hd_writers  word war then two people should NOT take credit for the same number of words during the war. It is between the two authors to decide who gets credit for what. This is an honor system and the mods will not be intervening to determine who wrote what so ultimately it’s up to you.

7.       It’s not an official word war event at [info]hd_writers  but I need to get some writing done. Can I still plan a word war?

Yes. The [info]hd_writers  community has set up two chatrooms that are frequently occupied. Information about the chatzy chat rooms is located here. Chances are you can drop in at any time and find someone/ or several people who is/are looking for a writing partner.

8.       I won’t be around for the entire length of the word war. Can I still participate?

Yes. You don't have to participate the entire weekend, just jump in whenever you can and do any amount of writing in order to qualify.

9.   I played. Now what do I do and more importantly what do I get? :)

Remember to return to the check-in post with your ending count sometime soon after the war ends! Just reply to your starting comment with your final count. This is also how you will claim your participant banner :)
