There's actually an article on PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3081450) that talks about malnutrition's effect on the respiratory system. And it seems quite logical to me that there would be significant effects to the respiratory system. I'm surprised that there isn't a mention of cardiovascular diseases as well since malnutrition affects muscles in such a drastic way."
