How to make the most out of your word wars, races, sprints, or any other fast paced times event.

Some of you do the word wars. Some go for the timed wars in chat. Or even the 100 in 60 challenge. No matter what you want to call it, they all have one thing in common, a challenge to get words out.

Here are a few tips to make the most of making your timed challenges

1. Try to keep the distractions to a minimum. TV, people, animals etc. You may not get to war for an hour, but if you're going for ten mins, making them the best ten minutes of writing you can.

2. Write!. Don’t spend it looking for that picture on tumblr or a song to download.

3. If you get stuck on a word, name, fact; mark it and highlight it. Come back for it in an edit war.

4. Don’t edit your work. If you’re timed, fixed the misspelling later. What harm is 10 minutes going to do?

5. Don’t compare your word counts to others. only got 300 words in and somebody pulling 700? Don’t worry about it! You got 300 words down! And it’s all in good fun.

See you in the chat room.

Challenge Yourself. Challenge Others!

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”
― Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Leave two to five word prompts here and we’ll collect them all. Write out your heart’s desires of what you want to see, what you can’t write yourself and we’ll make a list!

Prompts will be collected for twenty four hours, then we’ll post them in a few days’ time. Writers will be asked to pick a prompt and write a gift drabble with whatever challenge.

For example:
Username: lj-user
Prompt: Candle, Snow, Kiss
Challenge: Drabble without using the word “dark.”

Comments will be screened for the moment
