Title: Black Cat Character: Hermione Granger Rating: G Word Count: 177 Notes/Warnings: None.
Hermione’s first choice had been a black cat. She was a pretty little kitten with the cutest button nose. Her eyes were wide and green, and her fur was so very soft. The minute she picked her up, Hermione had buried her face in the black fur, rubbing her cheek against the softness and practically purring along with the little animal.
But her mother, although sensible at most times, did not like the idea of a black cat.
“It’s unlucky, Hermione. It’s best not to choose a cat of that colour.”
Hermione had argued and stubbornly kept the cat in her arms, especially when she noticed another little girl eyeing the cat longingly. Finally, it was her father who explained that sometimes she had to be considerate of her mother’s wishes because most of the time her mother was considerate of hers. With a heavy heart, she gave the black cat to the other girl and took a brown one instead. Crookshanks, she named him. And weeks later, she forgot all about her first choice of animal.
