“Can we just stay out here? Forever?” James asked in a quiet voice. “Just stay here and never return to the real world?” He could feel Teddy squeezing his shoulders a bit tighter, feel Teddy’s lips on his throat.
“Sure. We’ll just sit here and watch the forest and never leave,” Teddy whispered into James’s skin. “Just stay here and never face anyone ever again.”
“I just, I don’t understand what’s so wrong with us being together. I feel so good, I feel so happy, I feel so safe with you Teddy. What’s so wrong with that?” James asked, his voice breaking repeatedly.
“I don’t know James. I don’t know. I wish I could make it all right. I wish I could make people see that this is right. I don’t know what’s so wrong with being happy,” Teddy said, so quiet that James had to strain his ear to hear him.
Not knowing what more to say; whether there was even anything left to say, the boys just sat there, in the tree, holding each other and wishing they could just live in this moment for the rest of their lives. Because here, they could at least be together.

There was a splendid tree in the Weasley’s back garden. Large and strong, it had thick branches that one could easily climb on top of, sit and watch the rising of the sun. It was the tree that Bill had enjoyed swinging from, the tree that Charlie had fallen from, and the tree that Percy enjoyed sitting under with a book in his lap, using the tree the way a prat would use a tree. Fred and George were different. The tree was their sanctuary.
When they were five they climbed it and when they were seven they rode brooms to go right to the very top. The view was brilliant. And anytime they wanted to get away from their mother, they would hide in that tree and snicker as they heard her call their names in annoyance. The idea for Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes came from that tree, just like the thoughts behind the war and the important girls that each boy liked. It was all information that only both twins and the tree knew.
The night before the Second Wizarding War, George went in search of his brother and decided to look at the top of the largest tree. It wasn’t the same as the one they had at the Burrow, but it was close.
“What’s wrong, Freddy? Getting the pre-war jitters?”
Fred laughed. “Of course not. Not while you’re there with me.”
George raised an eyebrow. “Let me guess. If someone wants to kill you, you plan to shove me in front of you so to confuse them.”
“You know me so well,” Fred said with a grin. He wrapped an arm around George’s shoulders and sighed as the first rays of sunlight came through the horizon. “I just wanted to see the sunrise. I can’t remember the last time I did.”
George nudged his shoulder against his brother’s. “We’ll have plenty of opportunities to watch the sunrise.”
“S’pose you’re right,” said Fred, not knowing if he believed the words of his brother.
“Of course I am.” George grinned. “I’m always right.”
