When I did write stuff, having a point to write to was always my best motivator - the scene near the end that I really wanted to write. Sometimes I wrote it first, sometimes last, but it was always the beacon allowing me to join up the dots.

Yes, yes! That works for me best. Vivid scenes that I thought about a thousand times; I'm always dying to write them.
