It's something they used to do all the time when they were kids. Albus and James would find the highest room in Grimmauld's Place and look out the window. The world seemed smaller, insignificant, then. There was no worry about the press, school, nosy family, or equally nosy friends. Albus and James could spend time together in their little world.

Things changed when they grew up. They spent less time up there and more time in reality. There were times when one or the other longed for that secret spot. A place where they could get away from it all, but it seemed more like a dream with each passing year. Until, one day that changed.

It was the summer before Albus began his seventh year at Hogwarts. Albus, James, and Lily were spending time in Grimmauld's Place with their parents. They enjoyed it. They enjoyed it even more when their parents weren't fighting. One day when Albus could hear his mother's yells through the floorboards of his room, he left to find that secret place. It didn't surprise him to see James there.

Albus joined him on the bed. It was smaller than before, but had enough room to accommodate them. They looked out the window at nothing in particular. The peace and quiet made up for the lack of scenery outside besides the garden. Albus leaned closer to James, until their shoulders bumped, and threw a leg over James' legs. It was a habit he didn't completely grow out of.

Albus waited for James to push him away or snap at him. He smiled when James ruffled his hair instead.
