Sleep. I go over a lot of what I want to write when I'm drifting off to sleep. It's much easier for me to picture the scenes in my head in the dark than it is when I'm sitting in front of the computer screen. Sometimes I'll kind of work through a scene all night, mixing in with my real dreams, until it comes out the way I want.
