I find it depends on whether I'm getting a beta for a complete story, in which case Word is perfect. But sometimes I've got my beta going through as I write, so it really needs to be a live document.

Oh no. Oh the horror. I do that as well, with the Xs and square brackets. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, which leads to stopping writing to ponder the exact word I want for 10 minutes. Obviously not terribly productive, so that's an attempt to get over it. It seems pretty obvious to me. It really confuses people?
